  • Proposals include appointing new leaders and avoiding lobbying to maintain Ethereum’s neutrality.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has announced pivotal changes in the leadership structure of the Ethereum Foundation (EF).

These changes are designed to address concerns raised by the Ethereum community regarding communication, user support, and the alignment of the Foundation’s principles with its overarching goals.

On January 18, Buterin shared the announcement on the social platform X, outlining the objectives behind this leadership shift.

Central to the changes is the intent to bolster support for developers working on decentralized applications (dApps) and to reaffirm Ethereum’s core principles: decentralization, censorship resistance, and privacy.

These principles have long been the foundation of Ethereum‘s mission, and the leadership changes aim to ensure their preservation and promotion.

Commitment to Neutrality and Non-Lobbying

Buterin made it clear that the Ethereum Foundation will not engage in lobbying regulators on behalf of Ethereum. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Ethereum as a neutral, open platform that serves as a global resource.

“Such activities are not part of what the EF does and will not change,”

Buterin stated, reinforcing that the Foundation’s focus will remain on empowering the ecosystem rather than advocating for specific regulatory outcomes.

This commitment to neutrality underscores Ethereum’s vision of being a universally trusted blockchain infrastructure, untethered from political or corporate influence. For those seeking alternative paths, Buterin suggested the possibility of establishing independent organizations outside the Ethereum Foundation’s scope.

New Leadership Proposals for Enhanced Governance

Joseph Lubin, Ethereum’s co-founder and CEO of Consensys, has proposed a restructured leadership framework for the EF.

Lubin recommended replacing the current executive director, Aya Miyaguchi, with Danny Ryan and Jerome de Tychey, two figures well-regarded for their contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem.

Lubin highlighted that the proposed leaders bring the energy and creativity needed to guide Ethereum into its next phase of growth.

Jerome de Tychey echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the necessity for improved communication and streamlined messaging within the Foundation. He noted that Ethereum‘s strength lies in its adaptability and collective development.

“The power of Ethereum lies in its ability to cooperate and grow together. Together, we will shape the next chapter of Ethereum and make it even stronger,”

said de Tychey.

With these changes, the Ethereum Foundation aims to create a more transparent and inclusive structure, better suited to address the community’s needs.

By appointing leaders with a forward-thinking approach, the EF intends to enhance the technical capabilities of the network, foster collaboration, and ensure that Ethereum continues to stand out as a trusted and innovative blockchain ecosystem.

The restructuring marks a significant step forward in aligning the Ethereum Foundation’s governance with the decentralized ethos that underpins the blockchain’s global success.
