  • Led by Commissioner Hester Peirce, the event will bring together key figures including executives from Uniswap, Coinbase, and the NYSE.

With the hope of delivering the legal clarity the crypto community has for a long time longed for, the U.S SEC will be hosting a high-profile crypto roundtable. Titled “Between a Block and a Hard Place: Tailoring Regulation for Crypto Trading” the roundtable meeting will take place on the 11th of April at it’s Washington D.C headquarters.

This roundtable meeting will mark the second installment in the SEC’s “Spring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity,” a five-part initiative aimed at reevaluating how the vastly growing crypto landscape should be regulated.

This follows the first session held on March 21 which focused on the legal status of crypto assets. Now, the second session will dive into how Crypto trading platforms and financial institutions can navigate current SEC regulations, with a focus on crafting practical oversight frameworks.

This event will be spearheaded by SEC commissioner Hester Peirce, who currently leads the agency’s newly launched Task Force. Other notable key players in this roundtable are renowned entities in both the traditional finance and the crypto industry. Katherine Minarik, Chief Legal Officer of Uniswap Labs, Coinbase VP Gregory Tusar, and Chelsea Pizzola, Associate General Counsel at Cumberland DRW, are all set to join.

It is worth recalling that the three firms have clashed with the SEC for their respective cases. Fortunate thing is that all these cases were dropped after Trump took office.

Other notable crypto participants include Austin Reid, Global Business Head at FalconX, and Richard Johnson, CEO of securities tokenization platform Texture Capital.

Representing traditional finance will be Jon Herrick, Head of Product at the New York Stock Exchange. Academic and public interest perspectives will be provided by UC Berkeley’s Christine Parlour, investor advocate Dave Lauer of We the Investors, and Tyler Gellasch from the Healthy Markets Association.

Jumping into the itinerary, the 4 hour roundtable has been scheduled to  take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET. Notably, the meeting will consist of an open discussion followed by a focused conversation on the regulatory path foward for crypto oversight. Among the topics likey to be discussed include the definition of crypto assets under the Howey Test, the future of Bitcoin futures ETFs, and the role of state-chartered banks as qualified custodians.

Adding to the significance of the event, the SEC is currently reviewing five staff-issued guidance documents related to crypto, including its 2019 framework on digital asset securities.

This review, spurred by President Trump’s earlier executive order on deregulation and supported by the Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency, could reshape how the agency approaches enforcement in the space.
