Google has launched a new Ethereum-based product designed to enhance the capabilities of web3 developers. This innovation, released under the Google Cloud banner, is known as Blockchain RPC (Remote Procedure Call), which streamlines interactions with Ethereum’s blockchain without the need for personal node infrastructure management.
Blockchain RPC employs API technology (Application Programming Interface) to grant developers access to essential blockchain functionalities. This allows developers to issue commands to a node within the network to retrieve data, like account balances, or execute transactions without needing to engage directly with the underlying code.
Although RPC protocols are already embedded within Ethereum’s wallets and decentralized applications (dApps), Google Cloud’s new product aims to elevate the protocol’s scalability and compatibility.
The complimentary version of this tool can handle up to 100 requests per second and one million requests per day, capabilities that Google suggests are adequate for building applications that demand real-time data processing and substantial data management.
A significant feature of the Google Cloud product is its adherence to the Ethereum JSON-RPC standard, which optimizes how dApps communicate with Ethereum nodes. Specifically, the JSON-RPC standard dictates the method by which dApps can exchange data with a client and an Ethereum node.
The compatibility allows developers to integrate Blockchain RPC into their applications effortlessly, with merely a single line of code, thereby simplifying the application development process within the web3 ecosystem significantly.
Furthermore, the Blockchain RPC free version incorporates EIP-1474 technology, which ensures it works seamlessly with Ethereum-integrated dApps. This feature is particularly useful for developers requiring high-performance processing for their decentralized applications and other real-time web3 solutions, without the burden of expensive infrastructure.
This service currently supports the main Ethereum network and various test networks, catering to a range of developers, from those at nascent startups to those in large-scale enterprises. Google Cloud has made this service available in a preliminary version and encourages developers to test the product through its Web3 Portal.
